Advanced Dive Fundamentals Training

This program is designed for intermediate divers looking to really take their diving skills to the next level. There are 2 levels to this program, catering to different experience levels and also diver requirements.

Details

Most diver training programs are designed to cater to as large a variety of divers as possible.     This program, however, is designed for a select few:  those who want to really develop their skills to become truly advanced divers.

This course was inspired by the GUE Dive Fundamentals course but functionally, has a few key differences:  it is aimed more towards tropical/warm water divers, it is not geared with tech diving as the end-game and it is not a one-size-fits-all solution, so participants can decide how much time they want to spend on the training.

There are two in-water parts to this program as well as an optional theory module:

  • LEVEL 1  (Buoyancy/Trim/Control):     This works on refining a diver’s buoyancy and trim, improving kicking efficiency, adding multiple kicking techniques and also reviewing essential dive skills such as SMB deployment and using a reel.
  • LEVEL 2  (Handling Task Loading):  Here, we build upon the lessons from the first level by refining the ability to maintain buoyancy and trim while being task loaded – eg, while sharing air, shooting an SMB, doing a no-mask swim and more.    We will also cover basic emergency-management skills from the Rescue course.
  • THEORY (optional):   This module aims to provide a deep (pun intended) theoretical knowledge of what actually happens to us when we go diving, and how to use that knowledge to solve any unusual problems that may come up.    Topics covered include advanced air management, advanced decompression theory and problem management/risk prioritization (aka – how to choose between 2 less-than-ideal alternatives).

Due to the nature of the course and the fact that individual divers vary in their preferences about how much they want to learn under instructor guidance and how much they want to practice on their own, there is no hard-and-fast number of sessions for this program.

We generally recommend 1-2 sessions each for Levels 1 and 2, depending on your existing experience and  comfort level.    You can also start with one session and then add another later, depending on how it goes.

Pre-requisites

  • Minimum Open Water Diver certification with any dive agency
  • No medical changes since the last dive (or a doctor’s clearance if applicable)
  • Moderately decent buoyancy control – ie, the ability to dive while maintaining buoyancy and not floating up to the surface

Price

LeveL 1:  Rs 7,000 for the first session,  Rs 6,000 for additional sessions if need be

Level 2:   Rs 6,500 for the first session, Rs 6,000 for additional sessions

Theory:   Rs 5,000 (about 4 hours of online classes)

Prices are all-inclusive.

As mentioned, the number of sessions depends on your comfort level in the water, how fast you learn and your own criteria for what is sufficient.   For intermediate divers with good buoyancy skills, 1 session per level may be sufficient.   For other divers, it may be 2 sessions per level.     You don’t have to commit:  do a session, see how you feel and then take it from there.

Other Info

We have three very similar programs, all of whom have the shared goal of helping divers get better.     The following are the differences between them:

  • Scuba Refresher / Pre-Trip Review:   it is designed for relatively new divers who are at least moderately comfortable in the water but who want a little more practice and/or some instruction to continue to refine their skills.
  • Customized/Remedial Training:   this program is also designed for relatively new divers, but who do not feel very comfortable in the water and who are hesitant to go diving as a result.   This could be because the Open Water course was not enough to get them comfortable, or because they had an incident while diving which has put them off.    The purpose of this is to really build strong diving fundamentals and develop confidence in the water – so there is a greater focus on re-training and correcting any bad habits that may have cropped up.
  • Advanced Dive Fundamentals Training (this program):  this is for beginner to intermediate divers who are comfortable in the water but who want to continue to refine their dive skills.      The emphasis on this program is less on reviewing existing skills but more on building upon them.
